The Book Thief

Nazi, Germany. Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This book is a story of: a girl; an accordionist; some fanatical Germans; a Jewish fist fighter; and quite a lot of thievery.

I’m still reading The Book Thief at the moment but so far I think it’s amazing. The way it’s written is truly unique, with a humorous tone throughout. I’m very intrigued to see how the book continues, and also to hear other people’s opinions!

I finished the book recently and thought it was amazing! I won’t spoil the story but the book is so quirky and makes you think. A great first book for your book club. I’ll definitely check out your next suggestion!

I love this book! It sounds very bleak with the story set in Nazi Germany and Death one of the characters….But it is full of personality, originality and wit and you will develop such empathy with the characters that you cannot put the book down. And, by the end, the overall book is very much an uplifting experience..Definitely a book which I thoroughly recommend. Thank you, Canny Minds!
