Testing Intelligence

There is new debate on the best way to test intelligence. As the internet reduces the need to store pieces of information,  ‘working memory’ is being touted as an alternative way of IQ testing. Working or short term memory, it is argued, is a simpler measure of the type of skills which today’s youngsters need. Working memory is the ability to  juggle different thoughts and tasks and is seen as more relevant to today’s world, where the internet and other electronic databases put more onus on short term juggling of facts rather than long term storage.

However most psychologists still argue that traditional IQ Tests still have a lot to offer and provide a more rounded and complete view of a person’s intelligence. Separately, it is reported that the IQ scores achieved by people in developed countries, have continued to rise, increasing by three points a decade. So keep exercising the brain and measuring your IQ!
